About DefensibleHome
Why we built this
Wildfire non-renewal notices are landing in more mailboxes every season, and the defensible-space rules homeowners are supposed to follow are scattered across fire-agency PDFs, county ordinances, and insurer letters that rarely explain what to actually do. We built DefensibleHome to organize that into one clear, personalized plan.
The problem
Homeowners in wildfire-prone areas are often told to "clear brush" or "harden your home" without specifics: which zone, which materials, which documentation an insurer might actually want to see. Meanwhile, some services blur the line and offer to contact or negotiate with your insurer directly, which we believe puts homeowners at risk of relying on a promise no one can actually make.
How DefensibleHome works
DefensibleHome maintains free guides and tools covering the Zone 0/1/2 defensible-space framework by state, alongside free tools. The $99 Wildfire Insurance Survival Kit assembles everything into one personalized, printable document, including dated photo-log templates and a reconsideration-letter template you complete and send yourself.
Who we are
The DefensibleHome team researches and maintains this content. We are not a public adjuster, insurance agent, or law firm, and we never contact or negotiate with your insurer on your behalf; we help you organize your own documentation and communications.
